How to Approach the Opposite Sex

One of the most debated topics is what works when you try to approach the opposite sex and what doesn’t. Men and women have been trying to ascertain how to approach the opposite sex since the beginning of  time and while there is no specific answer that will give you a step by step guideline, there are some methods which have been tried and tested and have worked in a majority of the situations.

Most species have a mating ritual, something that attracts members of the opposite sex to them. Some animals or birds have special plumages that attract the attention of the other sex. For the human species, however, there are not too many things to exhibit and compete about. It would therefore behoove a person to be the star of any party or gathering, as it will make everyone in the gathering remember you making it easier for you to approach the person you want to later on. If you are going to a bar then make sure you are at one of the corners and not a wallflower or sitting at a table.

Eye contact is very important. Make sure you check out the person in a subtle manner but not so subtle the other party doesn’t realize it. This makes it easier to ease into a conversation. Make sure you do not stare at a person. Just look at them casually before approaching them, and for god’s sake have a small smile on your face, as though you know a secret that nobody else in the room knows about. If you make the other person curious about you, then they are sure to say yes when you ask them out or to dance. Wear colors like blue, which label you as a long-term relationship guy if you are man, or red which labels you sensual if you are a woman.

Have a opening line ready. Fans of the Friends series should remember Joey Tribianni’s “Hey! How you doin’?” Joey claims this is his best pickup line, in which he picked up “more than his share of women”. Make sure you don’t come across as arrogant or flippant when you talk to a woman first, they find that a big turn off. It is better to appear hesitant than to appear arrogant. Inject humor into your line. For example, "Excuse me. Do you have any raisins?? No?? How about a date??”.

The next thing to keep in mind is body language. When you are going over to ask somebody out or to dance, hold your head high and maintain eye contact. Do not slouch. Appear confident in your skills to land the person you want to. Women sometimes consider the hesitant approach to be charming but remember the hesitant part is only when it comes to asking them out. Your body language with respect to the people surrounding you should always be comfortably secure. You should be willing to give people their space as long as they don’t invade yours.

Also make sure you smell nice. If you smell horrible, women will want to have nothing to do with you. Same goes vice versa as well. On the other hand, if you have a nice smell, it will again serve to intrigue the other person and might lure them into going out with you, especially if they like the smell.

Always make sure you do not hog a conversation. Let everyone talk. People who go on and on talking are not usually liked. Also try to address something to the person you intend to approach in a conversation first. This will serve as an icebreaker.

Last but not the least, remember, there is no guaranteed way to approach the opposite sex. But the pointers mentioned above should give you a decent idea on how to approach the opposite sex.
