Odd child out…
Monday, December 29th, 2008I have three kids, with the middle one being a classic middle child. We’ve studied it, talked about it and dissected it but thats not the issue. The issue is as much as I love this child she definetely changes the dynamics of the family. Its also like living with Pigpen, you know from the Charlie Brown cartoons. She can’t grasp the concept of cleaning one mess before creating another. And it happens where ever she goes- her room, the kitchen, my car! I’m not sure what her dorm room looks like, as I’ve only been there twice- when we moved her in and when one weekend when she came home.
I don’t always understand how one child can change the dynamics of a family so much and its not necessarily the middle child… for two of my associates its their oldest child- now on that note, those two are boys. So what it is about a child, their personality that has that affect? We’ve deduced its not birth order. I’ve compared and its not Astrological…mine is born in February and the boys - April and July.
I’ve read that odd number of children in a family does disrupt the balance, however back to the boys… they are the oldest of two, one has a younger brother, the other a sister. With my daughter I’ve always had to be more creative with her than her siblings in everything from meals to discipline to entertainment. But here she is almost 18 and she still doesn’t get it! So short of beating my head against the wall, what do I do? I love her and her uniqueness, as I call it, and appreciate the rest of her personality!
